Temple University freshman golfer Brandon Matthews has been named the Under Armour OwlSports.com Athlete of the Month for the month of April.
Matthews, a native of DuPont, Pa. (Pittston Area), compiled a 71.92 stroke average over 13 rounds (5 tournaments) for the month. He was named A10 Rookie of the Week four times for month, and a record eight times during his rookie season.
The Owl golfer finished among the top seven in all five tournaments, sharing medalist honors with teammate Matt Teesdale at the Princeton Invitational while placing second in A10 Championship. His 209 score at both of those tournaments tied for third best in Temple history for 54 holes.
Matthews, who owns the lowest stroke average (72.27) among all A10 golfers this season, was named to the All-Conference Team as well as A10 Rookie of the Year for his second place finish. It was the highest by an Owl since 2002.
