One of the top quarterbacks to play for Temple, Brian Broomell directed the Owls to a 28-17 victory over California in the Garden State Bowl. He completed nine passes for 81 yards, two touchdowns and also rushed for 40 yards on eight carries against California. He owned four Temple records plus a share of a fifth and held numerous other marks that were broken by Henry Burris and Lee Saltz. His records include most touchdown passes in a season (22), passing yardage per attempt (17.5) in a season, total offensive touchdowns for a career (44) and a season (26) and most TD passes (5) in a game. He had five 200-yard passing games with his top game coming against Cincinnati when he completed 14 passes for 313 yards and the five TDs that ties him for the Temple record with Steve Joachim. As a freshman at Temple, he played defensive back and was presented The Owl Award in 1976. He was moved to quarterback in 1977.
