One of the all-time Temple basketball greats, Howard Rosan played three years of varsity basketball. Team captain during the 1934-35 season, he led the Owls to a 17-7 record. He earned All-American recognition as a senior. He came to Temple from Southern High School where he was captain of the 1930 championship team. He was elected to the Southern High Athletic Hall of Fame in 1973. He played with the professional Philadelphia Sphas from 1935 to 1944. He was captain of the Sphas from 1942 through 1944. He helped the Sphas to the playoffs every year and to several championships. Eventually, he turned to coaching after ending his playing career. He coached the Baltimore Bullets from 1944 to 1946 and won the league championship in 1946.
