John Baum

John Baum was known as the leading rebounder and second highest scorer in Temple basketball history at the time and also starred in the professional ranks. Captain of Temple's 1969 National Invitational Tournament championship team, he scored 1,544 points and pulled down 1,042 rebounds during his three seasons with the Owls. He was honored as Temple's most valuable player and was named to the Big Five Hall of Fame in 1978, quite an achievement for a man who never played high school basketball. Following his graduation from Temple, he played in the National Basketball Association, American Basketball Association and Eastern Professional Leagues. A graduate of West Philadelphia High School, he did participate there in baseball and soccer.
