Filip tabbed Player of the Week; Kacper picks up Rookie of the Week award
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore Filip Rams and his brother, freshman Kacper Rams, have earned weekly conference honors for the Temple men's tennis team for the week ending February 7, 2010. The Owls were in action just once this past week, defeating Xavier, the defending Atlantic 10 champion, 4-3 on Sunday, February 7.
Filip, the team captain, was named the A-10 Player of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in his career. The elder Rams helped lead Temple to the victory with his convincing 6-2, 6-1 number one singles win over Chris Herrlinger. He then teamed up with Kacper at the first doubles flight to defeat Herrlinger and Patrick Bandy, 8-6.
Filip was also tabbed the Owlsports.com Athlete of the Week for his 2-0 weekend.
Kacper Rams earned his second A-10 Rookie of the Week award in the last three weeks. In addition to the doubles win with Filip, the newcomer played at number three singles for the first time this season. The jump in the lineup suited him well as he came away with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Bandy.
The Cherry and White are 1-2 on the season and are in action next when they travel to Virginia Commonwealth for a 2:00 p.m. match on Friday, February 12.
