Owls Open Season on Sept. 3 with Villanova

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University football team continued training camp on Monday at Edberg-Olson Hall.

Owl Outlook is back for Day 15 of training camp, with today's focus being on the defense, joining us for interviews today are cornerback Maurice Jones (Belleville, N.J.) and defensive end Adrian Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa.).

Jones, now a sophomore, played in 12 games in 2009, starting the final four contests of the season for the Cherry and White. At 5-10, 195 lbs, Jones recorded 24 tackles, two TFL and a pass break-up for the Owls as a freshman. He was also named the coaches' Special Teams Player of the Week following the team's regular season finale against Ohio.

Robinson (6-2, 250) is the reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Year after enjoying a breakout season that included 46 tackles, 14 TFL's, 13 sacks, five forced fumbles, three pass breakups and one acrobatic interception. The junior was also named to the 2010 Bronco Nagurski and 2010 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch Lists.

The Temple defense is led by assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio, who is in his fifth season with the Cherry and White. In 2009, D'Onofrio's defense helped Temple win a single-season record nine consecutive games en route to a 9-4 overall record and first-place tie in the MAC East. A school record eight defensive players were named All-MAC, including five on the first team. Robinson earned 2009 MAC Defensive Player of the Year accolades, and senior Andre Neblett became Temple's first three-time All-MAC honoree.

Practices are closed to the general public.

Temple opens the 2010 season on Friday, Sept. 3 with Villanova at 5 p.m. in the second annual Mayor's Cup at Lincoln Financial Field.
