PHILADELPHIA - Senior and team co-captain Katie Briglia of the Temple field hockey team has been selected to participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Senior Game on Nov. 17. Thirty-eight Division I players earned the honor to play in the game, which will be held at Old Dominion University at 3:00 p.m. on that Saturday.
"Katie deserves all the accolades she gets," commented Temple head coach Amanda Janney. "She's such a hard worker, such an amazing player and a great captain. She's worked so hard all season. Katie has given so much to our team. She's one of the best athletes we've ever had and she deserves to play with the other greatest players in the nation. This year is a strong one for seniors and we're so proud she'll be able to play against the National Team.
"We have a great tradition of strong seniors playing outstanding in the Senior Game," said Janney. "Bridget Settles scored last year. Sarah Dalrymple was a standout in goal, and Charise Young, Mary Catherine Kinneman, Ashley Bird and Alli Lokey were all excellent and showcased why they were selected by the coaches. I know Katie will stand out as well!"
Briglia, who has scored six goals and leads the Owls with 11 assists this season, is the seventh senior in six years to be selected to represent the Owls in the game. She is one of four Atlantic 10 players selected for the honor this year, along with two players from Massachusetts and one from VCU. The game is held at the site of the NCAA Semifinals and Championship, ODU, and will be played on the day in between those contests. This year's Senior Game participants will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four, 25-minute sessions.
The Owls recently clinched Temple's 10th consecutive Atlantic 10 Tournament berth, and the third-seeded Owls will play second-seeded UMass at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 at UMass.
