Men's Basketball Game vs. La Salle to Play Host to ESPN's College GameDay
8.14.13 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple University's men's basketball game against La Salle, which will be played at The Palestra on Saturday, January 18, will host ESPN College GameDay Covered By State Farm, the national studio show that airs weekly. College GameDay will begin at 10 AM on ESPNU and continues at 11 AM on ESPN. The La Salle versus Temple game, which tips off at noon, will also be televised on ESPN.
In addition to this year's La Salle-Temple game being played at The Palestra, both schools agreed that the 2014-15 edition will also be played at The Palestra. La Salle will be the home team this season with Temple hosting in 2014-15. The schools agreed to bring the game to The Palestra for two straight seasons for the opportunity to bring ESPN GameDay to Philadelphia.
Tickets for the game will be split evenly between the two schools and the student section behind the ESPN GameDay set will also be divided equally.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase Temple Basketball and the Philadelphia Big 5 to a national television audience," said Temple men's basketball coach Fran Dunphy. "It is a win-win for the city, as well as for both programs."
The two teams shared last year's Big 5 title with 3-1 records and are located just under five miles apart in Philadelphia. The last 31 regular season meetings have been played on campus with the last Palestra meeting being played on January 4, 1989. Thirty-three of the previous 113 meetings have been played in the historic venue.
Temple, which is one of eight teams to compete in the last six NCAA Tournaments, is coming off a 24-10 season that culminated in a loss to top-seed Indiana, 58-52, in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Eight players return from that squad including junior starters Will Cummings and Anthony Lee.
Season ticket deposits are currently being taken by the Temple Ticket Sales Office at 215-204-8499. Season tickets will officially go on sale later this month.
