PHILADELPHIA – For the sixth consecutive year, Temple University has recorded a school record where it matters most - graduating its student-athletes. Data released today by the NCAA shows that Temple University student-athletes posted an 85 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), the best mark in school history. Temple also posted its highest Federal Graduation Rate (70%) since 2010.
"This has been an incredible year for Temple Athletics, but this stands above all the success that our teams have had in their respective sports," said Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "Our primary mission is, and always will be, education, and this confirms that we are succeeding where it matters the most. I am proud of our student-athletes for their hard work in the classroom. Our academic support system, led by Justin Miller and his talented staff at the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, is second to none."
There were only 12 higher GSR scores, achieved by 39 institutions, than Temple's 85 percent rate. Likewise, there are only 13 higher Federal Rates, achieved by 31 schools, than Temple's 70 percent rate,
The data covers scholarship student-athletes who were admitted to Temple University between 2005 to 2008.
Four Owl sports earned perfect 100 GSR — Women's Fencing, Women's Lacrosse, Men's Tennis, and Women's Tennis, which accomplished the feat for the sixth straight year.
Eight of TU's sports earned all-time high GSRs for their respective programs, including Football (82), which will have 26 current members of the team earn their degrees by December 2015, and Men's Basketball (82-tie).
"The public release of Temple's graduation rate serves as yet another testament to the exceptional effort and determination of Temple's student-athletes, as well as the outstanding commitment to academic excellence by Temple Athletics and its coaches," said Miller, Temple University's Senior Director, Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes. "We could not be more proud of the earned success of our student-athletes and the fact that the annual release of such data has become a point of pride for the University."
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is designed to reflect the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree within a six-year window of their initial enrollment. The GSR was developed in response to colleges and universities who asked for an alternative rate that more accurately reflects the movement among college student-athletes. The GSR takes into account incoming transfers who graduate from a different institution than the one they started at and transfers who leave an institution in good standing.

The Federal Graduation Rate (FGR) is compiled by the U.S. Department of Education and is used as an indicator of academic success for all college students, including student-athletes. FGR measures the percentage of first-time, full-time freshman who enter in the fall semester and graduate within six years of entering their original four-year institution.
