Matakevich Named Lott IMPACT Trophy Finalist
12.2.15 | Football, T. Matakevich - All-American Candidate
PHILADELPHIA – Temple senior linebacker Tyler Matakevich has been named a finalist for the LOTT Impact Trophy, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced today. Given to a defensive player whose personal character is equal to his athletic performance, Matakevich is joined by three other finalists for the award: Jeremy Cash of Duke, Carl Nassib of Penn State, and Joshua Perry of Ohio State.
The Stratford, Conn., native is the only FBS players to lead his team in tackles every game of the 2015 season. Matakevich is college football's active leader with 473 career tackles. This year he has 118 tackles, making him just the seventh college football player to ever register 100+ tackles in four different seasons. He also leads the nation in interceptions among linebackers with a career-high five and also reached career-highs in sacks (4.5) and tackles for loss (14.0).
The winner of the 2015 Lott IMPACT Trophy will be announced at The Lott IMPACT Trophy Award Banquet, held at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach on December 13. The award show will be televised live on Fox Sports at 10 p.m. EST/7 p.m. PST, and will be hosted by Fox Sports' Joel Klatt and Jenny Taft.
Named after Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Ronnie Lott, The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded to college football's Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Founded in 2004 by The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, The Lott Trophy is the first and only college football award to equally recognize athletic performance and the personal character attributes of the player.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation will make a $25,000 donation to the general scholarship fund of the winner's university and $5,000 to each of the schools of the runner-ups. In 11 years, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation has now donated more than $1.2 million, including nearly $500,000 to universities throughout the country.
