Greenville, S.C. - Junior Brandon Matthews posted a 10-under 206 at the Furman Intercollegiate to win the three-day tournament by three strokes over a strong field of 114-golfers Sunday.  It was Matthews' second win of the 2014-15 season, and sixth of his standout career.

"This is one of the biggest individual wins in Temple Golf history," said eighth-year head coach Brian Quinn. "It is an absolute privilege to watch him play golf."

Quinn, who was a stellar golfer for the Owls in the late 80s, continued to laud the performance of his star performer.

"He played so well this tournament, and has truly developed into a complete player.  He works incredibly hard at his game, and each year has been a stepping stone in terms of getting sharper. He has a phenomenal swing and all aspects of his game have come together."

Matthews started the tournament with an even-par 72 to tie for 20th.  He then catapulted to third place after a six-under 66 on Saturday, his second round.  Today he turned in the second best round of the day, a four-under 68, to move past Georgia State's J.J. Grey (71-66-72, 209) and Western Carolina's J.T. Posten (69-67-74, 210) for the title.

Overall, Temple moved up two spots to finish tied for fourth in the 18-team field with Francis Marion (+12).  Georgia State won the tournament, held at the 6,994-yard, par-72 Furman University Golf Course, with a six-under 858.

Senior Matt Teesdale (71-75-74, 220) was next for Temple and tied for 25th overall.   Senior Patrick Ross (75-73-75, ,223) was three shots behind and tied for 37th. Freshman Evan Thornton (79-74-75, 228 t-70th) had another solid round while freshman Mark Farley (78-83-81, 242, 108th) rounded out the Owls five.

Thornton also recorded his second hole-in-one of his young collegiate career, with his ace coming at the par-3, 195-yard 16th hole.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Evan Notaro (78-71-75) shot an eight-over 224, and was one-under on his second round for a solid weekend of work.

"This marks a tremendous comeback from a slow start (to the spring season)," Quinn said on his team's finish. "We could not get out of the box (last week) and then came back this week. This is very encouraging. Pat Ross and Matt Teesdale hung in there and shot solid scores.  A good team effort."

Temple next competes at the one-day  Met Intercollegiate at the Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. on April 4.
