1.7.16 | General

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University's student-athletes continue to set records where it matters the most -- in the classroom. This past semester, Owl student-athletes combined for a fall semester record 3.12 cumulative grade point average.

"I am so proud of the work our student-athletes have accomplished in the classroom," said Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "So much attention has been given to the records set on the field of play this past fall semester by all of our teams, but this is the one that means the most to our mission as a department and University.  I congratulate not only our student-athletes for their hard work, but also our coaches and our exceptional academic support staff led by Justin Miller. This is a true team effort."

Individually, 63 percent of the student-athletes earned a 3.0+ GPA during the fall semester, making it the highest fall percentage on record.  Nine teams had 70 percent or more of their rosters earn 3.0 GPAs during the semester.

Sixty-one percent of Temple student-athletes currently own a cumulative grade-point average above a 3.00.

Women's lacrosse (3.58), women's cross country (3.54), women's soccer (3.49), women's volleyball (3.46), women's fencing (3.43) and women's tennis (3.41) all posted combined semester GPAs above a 3.40 while 14 (out of 19) programs earned a 3.0+ combined GPA for the fall.

Overall, 16 programs have a cumulative GPA of better than 3.0, led by women's lacrosse (3.44) and men's tennis (3.37).
