10.15.16 | Men's Soccer
CINCINNATI, OH – In the Owls' fourth conference match of the year, a scoreless first half eventually broke with a second-half surge from the Cincinnati Bearcats who took the match 4-0. The Owls now stand at 1-2-1 in American Athletic Conference play and 8-5-1 overall.
With high offensive pressure in the first half, Jorge Gomez Sanchez, Matt Mahoney and Belal Mohamed created numerous chances and forced Bearcats' goalkeeper Pedro Diaz to make four saves in the first 45 minutes of play.
The Owls were also able to post four corner kicks in the first half to a single set corner from the Bearcats.
Alex Cagle faced only three shots in the first half and made a total of two saves on the day.
As the second half opened up, Cincinnati's Adam Wilson was able to lift one over the top for Jack Clark to collect and boot in with his right foot to the far post, sneaking past a diving Cagle.
The Bearcats were then able to draw a foul inside of the box in the 72nd minute. Nick Melville went one on one with Cagle and sent one to the back left of the net to put the Bearcats up 2-0 with less than 20 minutes remaining in the game.
Cincinnati posted two more goals in the 79th and 84th minutes from Daniel Oginni and Ryan Melink, respectively.
The Owls return to the Temple Sports Complex for a three-game home stand beginning on Tuesday. Temple hosts Delaware in the Owls' non-conference finale. The match is set for 3 p.m.
