Ed Foley Named Interim Head Football Coach

PHILADELPHIA – Temple University announced this afternoon that Ed Foley was named interim head football coach and will lead the team in the Military Bowl presented by Northrup Grumman on Dec. 27, 2016. Foley takes the reins after Matt Rhule informed the University he was taking the head coaching position at Baylor University.

Foley, the assistant head coach who is also in charge of tight ends and special teams, is the longest tenured coach on the staff having been at Temple since 2008. He has had numerous responsibilities for the Cherry and White, working as assistant offensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, and director of football operations, in addition to his current duties.

The Cherry Hill, N.J., native, was at Fordham from 1999-2005 where he served as head coach his last two seasons. That stint came in the middle of stretches at SUNY Albany (1989-90), Williams College (1994), Penn (1991-93, 1995-97), Jacksonville University (1998), Fordham (1999-2003), Hofstra (2006-07).

The 49-year old played offensive line at Bucknell where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1988, before receiving his master's degree in psychology at SUNY Albany in 1991.

Foley, and his wife Rebecca, have two sons, Charlie (16) and Luke (9), and a daughter Sara (7). His brother, Glenn, was a seven-year NFL veteran quarterback, playing with the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks from 1993-2000.
