Women’s Soccer Loses to Binghamton 3-1

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer loses on the road Sunday afternoon to the Binghamton Bearcats, 3-1. The Owls drop to 2-5 on the season, while the Bearcats advance to 4-2-2.
The Bearcats struck first as Leighann Bennett took a pass from Sam O'Malley and drilled it inside the post, just past freshman goalkeeper Cassy Skelton. The goal came during the 18th minute.
Temple rebounds during the 36th minute when redshirt-junior Kayla Cunningham smashed a one-timer off of a crosser from sophomore Sarah McGlinn to tie the game at one. Junior Gabriella McKeown also assisted on the play. The score marked Cunningham's first goal, McGlinn's first assist, and McKeown's second assist of the season.
Heading into the second half, the Bearcats were ready to strike back. During the 55th minute, Jocelyn Acor took a pass from Bennett and chipped the ball top shelf over Skelton's head for the game winner.
The Bearcats padded their lead after Allison Mack converted a header during the 83rd minute. Mack's score came on a corner kick from Michele Galvin.
Skelton finished the day with two saves and three goals against in her first career start for Temple.
Head coach Seamus O'Connor said he feels his young team is still taking strides and growing.
"We showed improvements in many parts of the game," O'Connor said. "Possession wise they have done a much better job."
Temple takes the field again on Friday night against Mount St. Mary's at 7:00 p.m.
