9.16.16 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer drops a close game 2-0 on the road to Mount St. Mary's Friday night. Temple falls to 2-6 on the season and the Mount advance to 3-3-1.
On the first corner kick of the game by Jenna West, Mount St. Mary's scored with a goal by Chloe Cain during the fourth minute of play. Cain's goal came as multiple players for each team scrambled in front of the net, hindering the view of sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Nash.
The second half was scoreless until Mount St. Mary's Jaylyn Chandler capitalized on a perfect pass from Chloe Cain during the 88th minute of the game. Chandler took the pass and ripped it just past the diving Nash to seal the game.
Offensively Temple finished the game with 12 shots, eight of them on net. Sophomore Sarah McGlinn led the team's efforts with three shots. The Owls also compiled 10 corners on the night.
The team's 12 shots mark their second highest on the season and highest in a loss. Head coach Seamus O'Connor was pleased with the offensive attack and feels his team is one step away from finishing.
"Created a lot of good chances tonight," O'Connor said. "The most we've created on attack and a lot of quality chances in the box. We just need to take those final steps and convert them into goals."
In net, Nash faced three shots, saving one and giving up two goals. The Brick, N.J. native returned to the field after missing the team's last game against Binghamton.
The Owls are back in action on Sunday as they host the NJIT Highlanders at the Temple Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for noon and will stream live on OwlsTV.
