Dougherty Earns CoSIDA's Kenworthy Award

PHILADELPHIA - Larry Dougherty, the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Athletic Communications at Temple University, will be honored for his community service with the Bob Kenworthy Community Service Award, presented annually to a CoSIDA member for civic involvement and accomplishments outside the athletic communications profession.

The former College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) president (2010-11), Dougherty is a member of the CoSIDA Hall of Fame (2015) and also the recipient of the ECAC-SIDA Irving T. Marsh Award (2011). Dougherty created the Philly-SIDA organization to recognize Philadelphia-area student-athletes for work in the classroom.

For over 20 years, he has contributed platelets and bone marrow to the Red Cross for cancer patients; he has contributed over 150 donations of platelets during this time. Additionally, Dougherty has volunteered as a Little League softball and baseball coach while also participating in numerous other civic activities.

Dougherty is in his 14th year at Temple and sixth as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications after serving the previous four years as Associate Athletic Director. In his position, Dougherty oversees the athletic communications of the University's 19-sport Division I-A athletic program as well as the television and radio operations. He is also the varsity sport administrator for women's soccer, men's crew and women's rowing.

He joined the Owls' staff after serving 15 years in the media relations office at Saint Joseph's, the last eight as the school's assistant athletic director for media relations. Prior to SJU, he served as the SID at Nicholls State for one year and as the information director of the East Coast Conference for two years.
