Oxford, MS – Temple women's track and field joined the nationally ranked Ole Miss Rebels at the Joe Walker Invitational on Friday. For the first time in three years, Ole Miss hosted the Owls among about 20 other colleges and universities on its home track for the outdoor opener. Temple completed day one of the weekend with a top-three show from freshman Millie Howard and a debut from its only javelin thrower, Cortlyn Raynes.

In her first javelin competition as a Temple Owl, Raynes took to the field and finished fourth in her flight. The sophomore reached a mark of 32.18m (105' 7.25"), earning her eighth place overall in the event.

Howard, who set the new school record in the 1000 meter event during the indoor season, ran the 1500 meter race for the Owls at Ole Miss. She placed third out of 68 competitors with her time of 4:30.28. Freshman Grace Moore also made the top-10 after finishing the race in 4:34.07, a personal best. Katie Leisher and Katie Pinson represented Temple in the 1500, finishing with times 4:41.74 and 4:44.04, respectively.

Six Owls ran the 200 meter dash for Temple amongst a field of stacked competition. The squad's top finisher was senior Bionca St. Fleur as she finished eighteenth with a time of 25.03. Seniors Kenya Gaston (24th) and Jimmia McCluskey (30th) finished with times 25.51 and 25.44 respectively.

In the long jump, St. Fleur and McCluskey made the top twenty. Their jumps of 5.45m and 5.40m earned them 15th and 17th places.

Caitlin O'Brien ran the 5000 meter race for the Owls where she reached a personal best of 18:24.53.

"Overall I think we got a decent start to the outdoor season today," said head coach Elvis Forde. "The distance group is making great strides and showing evidence that they will continue to be major players for us over the course of the season. By the looks of the other events, we are in good shape as we are getting back into the groove of the outdoor season. Tomorrow will be the bulk of the running events and I am looking forward to see what our student-athletes can do."

The action finishes up on Saturday for day-two of the Joe Walker Invitational. For the Owls, the competition will kick off with the triple jump at 12:00 p.m.
