Women's Track & Field Competes at Towson Invitational
4.15.17 | Women's Track and Field
TOWSON, Md. – On Saturday, Temple women's track and field competed at the Towson Invitational. Six Owls competed across 10 events.
"This weekend we were able to run a group of student-athletes who have not been able to compete much this season due to injuries," said head coach Elvis Forde. "It was great to see them get out there and run, all pain free. We are looking forward to seeing how they will be able to contribute over the course of the next few weeks."
In the women's 400 meter dash, senior Kenya Gaston was Temple's top finisher. She clocked a time of 57.30, taking a second-place finish overall. Gaston also ran the 200 meter dash for the Owls, finishing fourth overall with a time of 25.18.
Freshman Mariah Slade represented Temple in the 100 meter dash. Slade finished the race in 12.61 to take eleventh place in the preliminary round.
The triple jump featured senior Simone Chapman. Chapman's leap of 11.54 earned the senior third place overall and marked her best jump of the season.
"Simone reached her best triple jump mark of the year today," said Forde. "Seeing the tremendous work that coach Tramaine Ellison does with our jumpers come to fruition in Simone today made all the difference. When she reached her mark of 11.54 meters, I could tell that it raised her confidence and I can't wait to see how she performs during the rest of the season."
The Owls look forward to toeing the line next weekend at the Morgan State Legacy in Baltimore.
