Track and Field Competes at 2017 Delaware Open

NEWARK, Del. - On Saturday, Temple women's track and field competed at the 2017 Delaware Open. The Owls returned to Philadelphia with a long jump win from Jimmia McCluskey and several other top-ten finishes.

To kick off the afternoon for Temple, Sophomore Ashton Dunkley ran the 1500 meter race. The sophomore finished eighth overall with a time of 5:10.09

In the long jump, McCluskey earned a mark of 5.67m, her best jump of the season. The senior topped 24 other participants to take first overall in the event.  She took the track along with fellow seniors Kenya Gaston and Simone Chapman to compete in the 200 meter Dash. Both McCluskey and Gaston earned top-ten finishes in the event with times of 25.83 (5th) and 25.90 (7th), respectively. Chapman finished in 27.49 (32nd).

In the 400 meter dash, Gaston took a fifth-place finish with a time of 59.82. Freshman Millie Howard also represented Temple in the event, finishing the race in 1:00.64.

The 800 meter race featured Grace Moore, Katie Pinson, Katie Leisher, and Dunkley. Moore and Pinson were able to stick top-ten finishes with times 2:19.74 and 2:323.12, respectively. Liesher and Dunkley finished within the same minute at 2:28.06 and 2:28.33. Moore also represented the Owls in the 3000 meter race taking third place overall with a time of 10:17.44. The freshman as accompanied by Emily Nist (10:41.61), Caitlin O'Brien (10:47.86), and Megan Schneider (10:50.18).

Crystal Jones and Sydnee Jacques took on the 100 meter hurdles, both finishing in the top three. Jones earned second place after completing the race in a time of 14.63, while Jacques came in just behind with a time of 14.88. Jacques (1:13.14) then returned for the 400 hurdles along with teaming Re'ona Pettway (1:12.72).

Cortlyn Raynes, Temple's only javelin thrower, finished 12th overall in the event with a mark of 29.35m.

The squad will next compete at the Towson Invitational on April 15.
