PHILADELPHIA – ESPN has released the start times and networks for its first three weeks of the 2017 football season which includes two Temple games – the home opener on September 9 vs. Villanova and the following Friday night contest vs. UMass.
Temple's season opener at Notre Dame on Saturday, September 2 was previously announced as a nationally televised NBC clash. Kickoff for that game is set for 3:30pm. The Owls open up play at Lincoln Financial Field the following week when they host the Wildcats for the first time since 2012. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and kickoff at 3:30pm. Temple returns to the Linc the following week for a Friday night tilt against the Minutemen. That game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU with a 7:00pm start.
Thus far, Temple is scheduled to play in no less than four primetime games and with at least half of its games on national television. ESPN is expected to finalize its primetime schedule in the upcoming weeks which will include three more Temple games - at USF (9/21, ESPN, 7:30 or 8:00 p.m.), vs. Navy (11/2, ESPN, 7:30 or 8:00 p.m.) and at Cincinnati (11/10, ESPN2, 7:00 p.m.). Five contests remain undetermined in terms of network and kickoff time and will be selected and released throughout the season.
The Owls are coming off back-to-back 10-win seasons in which they were ranked among the Top 25 in both 2015 and 2016. Temple is one of 13 FBS schools to win 10-or-more games in each of the past two seasons and one of five (Alabama, Clemson, San Diego State, Western Kentucky) to accomplish that feat while also playing in its Conference Championship game in each season.
