Gymnastics Tops SEMO, Ithaca, and Cornell in Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA - Temple women's gymnastics snagged its first home win of the season on Sunday against SEMO, Ithaca, and Cornell in McGonigle Hall. The Owls totaled a 193.225 to take first, Cornell tallied a 191.600 (second), SEMO scored 189.625 (third), while Ithaca collected a 188.075 (fourth). Five Temple gymnasts reached season-high scores across the four events.Â

Keys to the Meet
> The Owls opened the meet on vault where they tallied a 48.075. Senior Sahara Gipson led the way with a solid 9.750. Temple's No.2 scorer on the event was sophomore Jaylene Everett with a 9.725.Â
> Next up, Temple headed to the uneven bars where sophomore Daisy Todd earned her highest score of the season, hitting a 9.775 to place second overall. The judges awarded senior Kerry Arone with a 9.675, tying for fifth. As a whole, the bars lineup notched a 48.350.
> Following the uneven bars, Temple scored a 48.025 on the balance beam. After being honored on the Owls' Military Appreciation Day, junior Breahna Wiczkowski nailed a season-high 9.825 beam score to earn the silver only behind Cornell's Isabel Herczeg. Freshman Jordyn Oster also earned a season-high 9.750 beam score, placing fourth overall.Â
> Temple closed out its home opener with the floor exercise, tallying a 48.775. Freshman Tori Edwards was the Owls' best performer, reaching a career-best 9.850. Overall, she tied for second with SEMO's McKinzie Jones. The Owls' next highest scorer was Gipson who scored a season-high score of 9.800 to place fourth. Oster was next, tying for fifth with Ithaca's Victoria Grey with another season high score of 9.750.
