Gymnastics Posts 194.625 to Win the Ken Anderson Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – Temple Gymnastics secured its second home win of the season on Saturday at the 2018 Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational. The Owls posted a 194.625 ahead of West Chester's 192.650. Bridgeport came in third with a 191.075 followed by Ursinus in fourth with a 185.175. Temple snagged four individual event titles and five other top-three finishes.
Vault
Temple kicked off competition on vault where the squad totaled a 48.550. Senior and co-captain Sahara Gipson placed first overall as the Owls' highest scorer with a 9.8. Sophomore Jaylene Everett and freshman Tori Edwards rounded out the top three with scores 9.725 (second) and 9.7 (third), respectively.
Bars
Moving on to the uneven bars, Temple reaped a 48.450-team score. Senior Kerry Arone was the Owls' No. 1 scorer on the event, notching a score of 9.825 to earn first place. Edwards and sophomore Daisy Todd contributed a 9.750 and 9.7, respectively.
Beam
The Owls built momentum on beam, pulling a 48.700 to take the lead. Freshman Delaney Garin shined on beam scoring a career-high 9.8 to place first overall. Sophomore Whitney King was the Owls' second best scorer, averaging a 9.775 to tie for second with West Chester's Jordan Miranda. As a last minute addition to the lineup, Todd stepped in to score 9.750, tying for fourth with West Chester's Yoli Nodarse.
Floor
Temple rounded out the Ken Anderson Invitational with 48.925 floor score. Edwards reached a career high 9.875 to win the individual floor title. Everett and Gipson earned the silver and bronze with score 9.850 and 9.8, respectively. For the first time since her 2017 season-ending injury, junior India Anderson hit the floor, scoring a 9.7 for her performance.
