Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at UNC Charlotte

PHILADELPHIA – After closing out the indoor season with its highest-ever finish in the American, Temple track and field will open the outdoor season at the 2018 49er Classic. Hosted at UNC Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track and Field Center at Transamerica Field, the three-day meet spans from Thursday Mar. 15 to Saturday, Mar. 17. The Owls will begin competition Friday, Mar. 16.
Scouting the Owls
> Temple earned its highest American Indoor finish since joining the conference at the 2018 American Indoor Championships, placing sixth out of the 12 women's teams.
> Millie Howard captured the American Indoor mile run title with a personal best time of 4:46.21, breaking both the meet records set by Blanca Fernandez ('16) in 2015 and Martina Rodriguez of Memphis in 2017. Sophomore Grace Moore also earned a spot on the podium placing third with a time of 4:51.29.
> Moore finished second overall in the 3000-meter run at the AAC Championships with a time of 9.44.45.
> The Owls' distance medley relay (DMR) team comprised of Howard, freshmen Sydney Williams and Lucy Jones, and senior Katie Pinson clocked a time of 11:36.18 to break the program record, placing third among the American's DMR teams.
