Maryn Lowell Earns Second Straight BIG EAST Lacrosse Weekly Honor

3.20.18 | Women's Lacrosse

NEW YORK - For the second straight week, Temple sophomore goalkeeper Maryn Lowell has been named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Lowell earned her second consecutive honor after holding No. 22/16 Denver to just nine goals in the Owls' 10-9 upset on March 18. She made 12 saves, including a game-saving stop in the final 20 seconds as the Owls knocked off the nationally ranked Pioneers. Lowell's 93 saves this season rank second (by one) among all players in NCAA Division I, and she has recorded three straight wins in the cage for Temple, who is 6-3 overall.

The Owls are back in action at home on Saturday, hosting BIG EAST foe Cincinnati at noon.

BIG EAST Attacker Of The Week
Grace Nolan, Connecticut, Sr., A
Nolan flirted with a pair of BIG EAST records while breaking two Connecticut program standards on Sunday at Butler. The senior totaled 11 points off eight goals and three assists in Indianapolis after stuffing the stat sheet at Ohio State on Wednesday with two goals, two assists, four ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. The eight goals and 11 points against the Bulldogs are UConn single-game records and are each one shy of the BIG EAST single-game records.

BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week
Grace Gabriel, Marquette, Jr., M
Gabriel sparked the Golden Eagles to a 19-15 win over a surging Cincinnati squad by tallying six goals, one assist, seven points, eight draw controls and a ground ball. Tied at 8-8 with time winding down in the first half, Gabriel scored her fourth goal of the game to give MU a 9-8 lead, an advantage the Golden Eagles would never relinquish. Gabriel leads the BIG EAST with a 4.00 goals per game average.

Maryn Lowell, Temple, So., GK
Lowell earns her second consecutive honor after holding No. 22/16 Denver to just nine goals in Sunday's win. The sophomore made 12 saves, including a game-saving stop in the final 20 seconds as the Owls knocked off the nationally ranked Pioneers.

BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week
Melissa Hawkins, Vanderbilt, Fr., D/M
After starting the first seven games of her collegiate career as a defensive midfielder, Hawkins lined up as a defender for the first time on Sunday, holding All-BIG EAST midfielder and Tewaaraton Award Finalist Sydney Pirreca to just one goal in Vanderbilt's 11-10 loss to the sixth-ranked Gators in the BIG EAST opener on Sunday. The freshman muscled up against one of the conference's premier players, keeping Pirreca without a point for the final 55 minutes of play after she scored the game's first goal. Hawkins' lockdown defense caused Pirreca to commit a season-high four turnovers.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Haelle Chomo, Georgetown, Jr., GK
Chomo made a career-high 14 saves in just over 52 minutes of action in Saturday's win over Villanova, surrendering eight goals for a 9.20 goals against average and .636 save percentage.
Sydney Pirreca, Florida, Jr., M
In a 2-0 week for the Gators, Pirreca totaled 10 points off seven goals and three assists, beginning with a hat trick and two dishes in Tuesday's win over No. 10 Navy before tallying four goals and a helper in Sunday's win at Vanderbilt.
Liz Trojan, Villanova, So., A
Trojan led the Wildcats to an 18-12 win over Rutgers on Tuesday with five goals, two assists, seven points and a draw control. The win over the Scarlet Knights was just the second in a 25-game series. The sophomore added an assist and ground ball at No. 25 Georgetown on Saturday.
