Gymnastics Primed for 2018 ECAC Championships

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off another record-breaking year, Temple gymnastics prepares for the culmination of the 2018 season. This Saturday, the Owls head to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships hosted at Penn, looking for the program's first conference title. Temple, ranked first in the ECAC, will take the floor Mar. 24 at 12 p.m. along with Penn, Brown, Cornell, Yale, and William & Mary.
Last Time Out
> The Owls posted their highest-ever road score of 195.075 at Kent State on Mar. 16.
> Senior Sahara Gipson posted a 9.825 on vault to tie for second overall.
> Freshman Tori Edwards scored a career-best all-around score of 39.175 to earn the silver.
Scouting the Owls
> The Owls have posted a score of 195 or higher in their last three competitions, shattering the school record twice at home on Mar. 9 and 11 with scores of 195.800 and 196.05.
> Temple enters the weekend with a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 195.015 and an 18-12 record.
> Edwards leads the conference on floor with an RQS of 9.855.
> Gipson and sophomore Jaylene Everett are No. 1 and No. 2 on vault with regional qualifying scores of 9.830 and 9.810, respectively.
> On the balance beam, freshman Delaney Garin has the second best RQS of all conference opponents with a 9.800.

> The Owls recorded the highest ECAC finish in program history at last year's championships with a 193.675.
> Senior Alexa Phillip left the 2017 ECAC Championships as the uneven bars co-champion with a score of 9.875, the program's first ECAC champion.
> Sophomore Daisy Todd was named Rookie of the Year at last year's championships, Temple's first since 2009.
Scouting the Quakers
> Penn heads into this weekend ranked sixth in the conference with an RQS of 192.885.
> The Quakers' balance beam RQS of 48.495 and floor RQS of 48.900 rank second in the ECAC, just behind Temple.
Scouting the Big Red
>Cornell ranks fourth in the ECAC with a regional qualifying score of 193.155.
>The Big Red's Samantha Henry ties for second on the floor exercise with Everett, holding an RQS of 9.845.
Scouting the Bears
> Brown comes in at fifth in RQS among ECAC opponents and 12th in the North East region with a 192.900 and a season high of 193.525.
> Emma Hansen sits fourth in the ECAC on bars with an RQS of 9.795
Scouting the Bulldogs
>Yale sits at No. 2 in the conference and 7th in the North East region with an RQS of 194.240.
>Jessica Wang leads the ECAC on bars with a RQS of 9.840 while Jacey Baldovino leads on both the balance beam (9.820) and at the all-around (39.080).
Scouting the Tribe
>William & Mary ranks third in the ECAC and ninth in the South East region with an RQS of 193.385.
>The Tribe's best individual RQS comes from Katie Waldman with a 9.785 on vault (third) and 38.900 all-around (third).
