SAN DIEGO -- The Temple men's crew team had a stellar season-opening weekend, winning a pair of gold medals at the San Diego Crew Classic.
VARSITY EIGHT
> The Owls' top heavyweight boat grabbed gold, winning the Mens Varsity American Specialty Health Cup.
> Temple opened racing on Saturday, recording the fastest time in the semifinals, a 6:16.425 to top Gonzaga, UC Davis, and UC San Diego.
> In the grand finals, Temple's time of 6:17.856 topped the field of six, which included the University of British Columbia (6:21.096), Orange Coast (6:26.730), Gonzaga (6:32.358), San Diego (6:32.667) and UC Santa Barbara (6:40.396).Â

>Â In lightweight action, the Owls won the finals only Secretary of the Navy Cup.
> Temple won a tight race, finishing in 6:19.22 to top MIT (6:22.126) and the University of Victoria (6:24.626).
