PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's rowing team had their most successful Murphy Cup in recent history, winning four medals, three of them gold, at the 36th annual event on the Schuylkill River on Staurday.
FINALS FRENZY
> The Owls advanced to the finals in every race they entered on the day.
> Three boats won their events -- the second varsity eight, the varsity four, and the second varsity four.
> Temple's top boat -- the varsity eight -- also grabbed a medal, winning silver for the Owls.
VARSITY EIGHT
> Temple's top boat won its opening head to earn a spot in the finals. The Owls clocked in at 6:53.41 to finish ahead of Fordham, Duquesne, Lehigh, Army, and Manhattan.
> In the finals, Temple was second behind only Drexel, as the Owls' time of 7:25.40 placed them ahead of George Washington, Delaware, Fordham, and Wesleyan.
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
> Temple recorded a time of 6:48.25 to win its heat over Lehigh, Fordham, Duquesne, and Loyola.
> In the finals, Temple won a photo finish, topping second place Drexel by just 0.44. The Owls finished in 7:30.29 over the Dragons, George Washington, UConn, Lehigh, and St. Joseph's.
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
> Temple finished second in the opening heat to earn a finals spot.
> In the finals, Temple took third place overall, with a time of 8:12.72.
VARSITY FOUR
> Temple won the opening heat in a time of 7:38.15 to earn a spot in the finals.
> The Owls clocked in at 8:07.58 in the finals, to grab a gold medal, after late disqualifications. Temple out-paced Lafayette, UConn, St. Joseph's, and Delaware in the race.
SECOND VARSITY FOUR
> Opening the morning with a victory, Temple's time of 7:43.98 earned the Owls a spot in the finals.
> Temple then grabbed a gold medal with a time of 8:24.64, recording an open water victory over UConn, Duquesne, Drexel, Marist, and Lehigh.
NOVICE FOUR
> The Owls opened with a second place finish in the heats to earn a finals spot.
> In the finals, Temple took fifth place, recording a time of 10:02.94.
UP NEXT
> The Owls are back in action at the Knecht Cup on April 14 and 15.
