Track and Field to Compete at the Virginia Challenge and the Widener Invitational This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – This weekend, Temple track and field will split up to compete at both the Virginia Challenge and the Widener Invitational. Hosted at the University of Virginia, the Virginia Challenge will take place both Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21. The Widener Invitational will take place at Widener's Leslie C. Quick Stadium where the Owls will compete on Saturday.
Scouting the Owls
> Freshman Lucy Jones broke the program's steeplechase record on March 31 at the Ole Miss Classic with a time of 10:40.43. Her time is the second fastest in the American Athletic Conference. Both Grace Moore and Katie Pinson have held the steeplechase record prior to Jones.
> Sophomore Millie Howard ran a personal best time of 4:21.02 in the 1500-meter run at the Ole Miss Classic. She now sits at No. 2 in the American in the event.
> Freshman Helene Holm Gottlieb ran her fastest 800-meter race of the season at the Temple Owls Invitational on April 13, placing fourth overall with a time of 2:09.67.
> Freshman Aisha Brown has the Owls' best high jump mark of the season after reaching a mark of 1.78m at the 49er Classic on March 15.
> Junior Katie Leisher reached a new personal best 5000-meter run time of 17:01.36 at the Sam Howell Invitational on April 6.
Virginia Challenge
> On day one of the Virginia Challenge, Moore, Jones, and Pinson will race in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Following the steeplechase, Gottlieb will represent the Owls in the 800-meter run.
> On Saturday evening, Brown will be up first for Temple, competing in the high jump set for a 7 p.m. start. On the track, junior co-captain Crystal Jones will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at7:10 p.m.. Howard and Moore are set to race in the 1500m at 8:03 p.m. Rounding out the day of competition for Temple will be junior Katie Leisher in the 5000-meter run, set for a 8:50 p.m. start time.
