PHILADELPHIA - Looking to end the season with a couple more wins to earn itself a berth in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament, Temple lacrosse (9-6, 4-3) will play at city rival Villanova (7-7, 2-5) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 21. The game will be televised nationally by Fox College Sports Atlantic.
Scouting Temple
> Temple has won two straight so far and currently stands alone in fifth place at 4-3. Wins against both Villanova and Georgetown are likely needed to secure a berth, but one win and help from other teams could get the Owls in.
> Temple's most recent win was a big one over Vanderbilt, 10-5 on April 18. Sophomore goalkeeper Maryn Lowell made 14 saves, her second-most of the season, while sophomore Maddie Gebert scored three goals for her fourth hat trick of the season. In addition to Lowell's outstanding play defensively, senior Nicole Latgis recorded career highs in both ground balls (nine) and caused turnovers (five), while sophomore Kara Nakrasius had four draws, six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
> The Owls recently snapped a three-game skid in decisive fashion, winning 18-5 at Butler on April 14 behind a career-high six goals from senior Toni Yuko. It was the first hat trick of her career, while sophomore Meghan Hoffman and freshman Bridget Whitaker also recorded their first career hat tricks with three goals each.Â
> Two of Temple's BIG EAST wins have been one-goal decisions. The Owls upset #22/16 Denver 10-9 on March 18, and followed it up with a 9-8 double overtime win vs. Cincinnati on March 24. Gebert scored two goals vs. Cincinnati including the clutch game-winner just over one minute into the second overtime period.
> Lowell made her 12th save vs. Denver with 20 seconds left to keep Temple in the lead, and made eight more saves in the Cincinnati win including one in the first overtime. Lowell was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week after the Owls' win vs. La Salle and Denver, and was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks.Â
