PHILADELPHIA – The Seattle Seahawks selected Temple DE Jacob Martin (Aurora, Col.) in the sixth round of the 2018 National Football League Draft on Saturday afternoon. He was the 186th overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and the first for Temple.
Martin is a four-year letterwinner who was a team captain and was also awarded second-team all-conference honors for the 2017 season. He finished the year second on the team in sacks (8.0), second in TFLs (11.0), first in fumble recoveries (2) and tied for second in forced fumbles (2). Martin played in 50 games during his career with the Owls. The Aurora, Colo., native, also wore the #9 single-digit jersey the past two years, awarded to Temple's toughest players.
"Jacob Martin is single-digit tough; a physical football player, hard and relentless worker," said Temple head coach Geoff Collins. "Everything that you want to know about playing at Temple University and on the 'Darkside,' in our defense, is embodied in Jacob Martin."
Martin is the 70th Temple football player to be drafted into the NFL. He joins Robby Anderson (New York Jets), Dion Dawkins (Buffalo), Nate Hairston (Indianapolis), Matt Ioannidis (Washington), Praise Martin-Oguike (Arizona), Tyler Matakevich (Pittsburgh), Brandon McManus (Denver), Haason Reddick (Arizona), Brandon Shippen (Kansas City), Colin Thompson (Chicago), P.J. Walker (Indianapolis), Tahir Whitehead (Oakland), Muhammad Wilkerson (Green Bay), and Tavon Young (Baltimore) as former Owls currently active in the NFL.
