PHILADELPHIA – The San Francisco 49ers selected Temple defensive tackle Jullian Taylor (Glenside, Pa.) in the seventh round of the 2018 National Football League Draft on Saturday afternoon. He was the 223rd overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft and the second for Temple. Earlier defensive end Jacob Martin was selected by Seattle in the sixth round.

Taylor played sporadically over his first four seasons looking to gain weight while shifting from defensive end to defensive tackle. By his senior year, he approached 300-lbs. and became a dominant run-stuffer. He finished his 2017 season with 40 tackles including 10.0 TFLs, which was tied for third on the team. Taylor's season was highlighted by his home finale vs. #15 UCF which he complied career-highs in TFLs (4.5) and tackles (10).

"Jullian Taylor is as good as any defensive lineman that I've coached throughout my career in the SEC, ACC, and at some of the big-time programs I've been a part of," said Temple head coach Geoff Collins. "He is a dominant force on the inside, a great run stopper, and has the ability to be an elite pass rusher from the inside, as well."

Taylor is the 71st Temple football player to be drafted into the NFL. He joins Robby Anderson (New York Jets), Dion Dawkins (Buffalo), Nate Hairston (Indianapolis), Matt Ioannidis (Washington), Praise Martin-Oguike (Arizona), Tyler Matakevich (Pittsburgh), Brandon McManus (Denver), Haason Reddick (Arizona), Brandon Shippen (Kansas City), Colin Thompson (Chicago), P.J. Walker (Indianapolis), Tahir Whitehead (Oakland), Muhammad Wilkerson (Green Bay), and Tavon Young (Baltimore) as former Owls currently active in the NFL.
