Crew Accepts Invitation to Henley Royal Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- For the first time since 1994, the Temple men's crew team has accepted an invitation to the Henley Royal Regatta in England July 4-8. The Owls earned an automatic qualifying spot for the heavyweight eight based on a victory in the Dad Vail Regatta.

TEMPLE CUP FOR TEMPLE
> The Henley Royal Regatta is held annually on the River Thames in Henley-on-Thames, England.
> Contested since 1839, the event features a one-mile, 550-yard race (2,112 meters).
> Temple will compete in the Temple Challenge Cup, a series of races open to male crews from international universities that began in 1990.
> 32 crews will start the event, which is a series of head-to-head races to determine who advances.

> "To represent our University internationally at the prestigious Royal Henley Regatta is an unbelievable honor," said Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "I am so very proud of our Temple Crew coaches and student-athletes on winning the Dad Vail Regatta and earning this trip.  It will be an experience of a lifetime."

HENLEY HISTORY
> Temple has made eight appearances in the Henley Royal Regatta.
> In their last trip to Henley, the 1994 Owls advanced to the fourth round at the event, before falling to eventual champion, Brown.
> The Owls had a bye in the first round, before defeating Durham (England) in the second round and Ruder (Switzerland) in the third round.
