PHILADELPHIA - Seven Temple programs have been announced as recipients of the NCAA's Division I Academic Performance Program (APP) Public Recognition, honoring the top 10 percent of Division I teams across the nation for their multi-year academic performance. The total number ties 2017 for the most Temple teams ever recognized, and leads all schools in the American Athletic Conference.

"I'm so proud of the way our programs continue to excel academically and give Temple a reputation of success at both the conference and national level," said Temple's Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "To have seven teams recognized nationally for a second year in a row is truly an amazing accomplishment. I can't say enough about the hard work put in not only by our student-athletes, but also by our outstanding academic support staff led by Justin Miller, and our coaches, who make it a priority to instill the true meaning of student-athlete with their teams."

Men's tennis is being recognized for a fifth year in a row, while men's cross country and women's tennis made the list for a third straight year. Men's and women's basketball, women's cross country and women's soccer were all honored by the NCAA for a second consecutive year.

Among AAC schools, no other had more than five conference programs recognized (UConn's seven includes two Big East programs). Among all full Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institutions, Temple's seven honorees are tied for 11th.

For a second year in a row, Temple is one of just five FBS schools to have both men's and women's basketball recognized for their APP.

The Academic Performance Program (APP) is designed to ensure Division I student-athletes receive exemplary educational and intercollegiate-athletics experiences.  The APP encourages student-athlete graduation through a reward and penalty system directly tied to a team's academic performance. The APP umbrella covers both the Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
