5.17.18 | General
PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University's student-athletes continue to achieve at an extremely high level where it matters most - in the classroom. This spring, the Owls combined for an overall department grade-point average of 3.19, marking the 13th consecutive semester GPA 3.0 or greater, and the seventh consecutive one over 3.1.
The 3.19 GPA was also the highest for the Owls since the spring 2016 semester.
"I would like to congratulate our student-athletes for their amazing success in the classroom this year," said Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "Each year they continue to set the bar higher and set new records. Their hard work is a testament to the dedication that they have to being true student-athletes."
Individually, 322 student-athletes (68.4%) earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher, the largest number of student-athletes at Temple to ever achieve that feat in a spring semester. The Owls also saw a pair of all-time records, as 178 student-athletes earned a semester GPA of 3.5 or better, and an astonishing 27 student-athletes finished the spring with perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Overall, 16 of 19 Temple sports teams earned a semester GPA of 3.0 or better, led by women's cross country (3.74) and men's cross country (3.51). Impressively, all 19 Temple teams earned cumulative GPAs of 2.8 or higher.
