PHILADELPHIA - Accomplished collegiate field hockey player Montana Fleming has joined the Temple field hockey staff as an assistant coach, announced head coach Marybeth Freeman. Fleming was a part of two national championship teams with the University of Connecticut, and spent a fifth year at Quinnipiac University.

"Montana brings a fresh, enthusiastic and knowledgeable approach to our Temple field hockey program," said Freeman. "Her success within the BIG EAST and as a two-time national champion has taught her what is essential to finish the season on top. She has the ability to think outside the box and challenge our student-athletes. That is what we need in order to reach our goals and develop a well-rounded, attack-minded team."

38616Fleming spent four seasons with the Huskies from 2013-16, winning national titles in each of her first two seasons while winning BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles all four years. She was twice named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, and was a three-year member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Fleming played in 65 games with 22 starts for the Huskies, scoring eight goals and adding three assists.

An injury a short way into her junior season at UConn allowed Fleming to take a medical hardship for that year, ultimately leading to the opportunity to work toward her master's degree in a fifth year at Quinnipiac.

"I am extremely excited and humbled to be joining the Temple field hockey program and to be given the opportunity to work alongside the team and staff," said Fleming. "This program is highly respected and I am looking forward to finding my place on the field and offering my passion for the game to the players. I am grateful to be staying in the BIG EAST Conference and I look forward to helping Temple meet, and exceed, its program goals."

After graduating with degrees from UConn in sociology and an individual major in crime and justice, while minoring in women's gender and sexuality studies, Fleming started in all 18 games as a graduate student at Quinnipiac, tying for third on the team with three assists. After completing her graduate season in 2017, Fleming spent the remainder of the school year serving as a graduate assistant coach for the Bobcats.

Fleming is a native of Delran, N.J., and won state championships with Bishop Eustace Prep in 2010 and 2012, scoring the game-winner in 2010. She was a two-time all-state honoree and three-time All-South Jersey selection. Fleming also earned two national championships with her club team, the WC Eagles, and was selected to compete in USA Field Hockey's Futures Elite Championships in both 2011 and 2012. She was a member of the USA Under-17 Junior National Team in both of those years, and won a gold medal at the Junior Olympics in 2009.
