Nutile Selected to Maxwell Award Watch List

7.16.18 | Football

PHILADELPHIA - Redshirt senior quarterback Frank Nutile was named to the 2018 Maxwell Award Watch List entering the 2018 college football season.

The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell's contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

In six starts in 2017 following his insertion into the starting lineup when Logan Marchi suffered an injury, Nutile threw for 1,520 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Overall, he threw for 1,600 yards with 12 TDs and seven INTs. Nutile guided the Owls to three wins in their last four games of the season to make them bowl eligible for the fourth straight years. He also was the spark plug in Temple's 28-3 win over FIU in the 2017 Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, winning game MVP honors after throwing for 254 yards and two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).

This is the first time Nutile has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List. He is among 41 quarterbacks selected to the list, but one of only seven players from the American Athletics Conference.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced October 29, 2018, while the three finalists will be unveiled November 19, 2018. The winner of the 2018 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 6, 2018. The formal presentation will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 8, 2019.

The Maxwell Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 24 awards boast over 750 years of tradition-selection excellence. Visit www.NCFAA.org to learn more.
