Randall Named to Nagurski Trophy Watch List
7.24.18 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - Senior safety Delvon Randall was named to the 2018 Bronko Nagurski Trophy watch list. This is Randall's third Watch List this summer. He was named recently to the Bednarik Award and Jim Thorpe Award watch lists. He is one of seven players from the American Athletic Conference to be named to the watch list.
Â
Randall recorded 80 total tackles for the Owls in 2017, including 6.5 tackles-for-loss. He recorded his first sack and matched his career-high with four interceptions. Over the past three years, Randall has been a staple of the Temple secondary and undoubtedly a senior leader of one of the top defenses in the conference. He also has been a great example of consistency, playing in all 41 games since his freshman year. He's improved or equaled his number of tackles and interception total each of his first three seasons, which benefits him going into his final year with the Owls.
The FWAA has chosen a National Defensive Player of the Year since 1993. In 1995, the FWAA named the award in honor of the legendary two-way player from the University of Minnesota. Nagurski dominated college football, then became a star for professional football's Chicago Bears in the 1930s. Bronislaw "Bronko" Nagurski is a charter member of both the College Football and Pro Football Halls of Fame.
Randall is among five Temple players to be named to a preseason award watch list this summer, joining running back Ryquell Armstead (Doak Walker Award), center Matt Hennessy (Rimington Award), quarterback Frank Nutile (Maxwell Award), and tight end Kenny Yeboah (John Mackey Award).Â
