7.27.18 | Women's Cross Country, Women's Track and Field
NEW ORLEANS - After standout seasons on both the track and in the classroom, rising sophomore Helene Gottlieb and rising junior Millie Howard both earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for 2017-18. Howard received the same recognition a year ago.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
> For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
> For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Both Howard and Gottlieb represented the Owls at the NCAA East Region Preliminary to conclude their outdoor track seasons. In the 1,500 meter, Howard came up just one place short of earning a spot at the NCAA Championships. She won a silver medal in the event at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships after taking gold in the mile at the indoor conference meet. Howard is an economics major with a 3.97 GPA, and earned a perfect 4.0 in the spring semester.
Gottlieb raced in the 800 meter at the NCAA Regional after running a personal-best time of 2:07.96 to place fourth at the AAC Championships. She is a political science major with a 3.68 GPA following the conclusion of her freshman year.
Both student-athletes will be back in action for the Owls during the upcoming cross country season.
