Temple University Athletic Training
![]() |
Temple's strength and conditioning center is one of the finest facilities of its kind in intercollegiate athletics. The facility, furnished in part with $155,000 of equipment from Trotter Strength Manufacturing, Inc., is more than triple the size of the previous weight room and is loaded with state-of-the-art equipment.
Training Facilities
High-tech. That describes Temple's athletic training room that is more than double the size of the old one and features the latest in training room equipment. Student-athletes' injuries can be immediately diagnosed and cared for in the most efficient manner.
Equipment includes the Hydro Trac underwater treadmill. Only about five percent of the nation's university training rooms possess this $50,000 piece of equipment. The primary use of the Hydro Trac is to rehabilitate injuries when weight-bearing exercise is not possible.
The multi-purpose Biodex machine is a computerized isokinetic device that can work every part of the body. It is a great rehab tool, but it can also be used for diagnosis and evaluation. Also available in the rehab area is the Shuttle 2000, a plyometric non-weight-bearing device which helps with both upper and lower body rehab, particularly the shoulders and knees.
A doctor's exam room is complete with a wall-mounted ophthalmoscope, otoscope and blood pressure machine, as well as an overhead lamp for suturing and an X-ray machine and viewing board.
The X-ray machine elevates Temple to a group of about one percent of the nation's universities with such technology in their on-campus training rooms.
Staffing the exam room are Temple University Hospital's Dr. Ray A. Moyer, the University's team doctor, and his associates.
Sports Medicine
Temple athletes receive the best of care in both the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries. With the world- famous Temple Health Sciences Center located within two miles of the Main Campus, Temple team physicians have access to excellent facilities
The Center for Sports Medicine is headquartered in the Tioga East Building at Temple's Health Sciences Center and, in addition to treatment, conducts research into the causes and possible prevention of sports injury.
Dr. Ray A. Moyer, team physician, gives the Owls a unique service as director of the University's Center for Sports Medicine, which treats injured athletes, both recreational and professional. Through the Athletic Department's relationship with Temple Sports Medicine, student-athletes receive access to these facilities when necessary. The Athletic Trainers will call to set-up appointments for our student-athletes to utilize their facilities.
The Center's clinical facilities include a hydrotherapy room, weight training and rehabilitation apparatus, minor surgery room and a basic therapy room as well as complete diagnostic capabilities.
Student-athletes are primarily evaluated, rehabilitated and treated on campus in our athletic training rooms. Physical therapy services are provided on campus by on-site NovaCare physical therapists.
