Temple reached the pinnacle of college gymnastics in 1949, winning its first ever NCAA Championship. The team, coached by Hall of Famer Max Young, also captured the Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League Championship. The Owls were sparked by NCAA Champions Bob Stout and Joe Berenato. Stout won the horizontal bar and Berenato won the side horse. Stout was a member of the 1952 United States Olympic Team. Coach Younger, Stout and Berenato have all been inducted into the Temple Hall of Fame.
