Al Shrier has been Temple's sports information director since his graduation in 1953. In addition to his sports information duties, since 1970, he has served as both assistant to the director of athletics and assistant director of athletics. Prior to 1970, he served as business manager for the department. He is also media coordinator for the Philadelphia Big 5 and has been with that organization since its inception. He has been elected to the Big 5 Hall of Fame. He has arranged media facilities for two NCAA Final Fours, in 1976 and 1981, as well as other NCAA tournaments and national and regional events. In 1981, the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference presented him with the Irving T. Marsh Service Bureau Cooperation Award. He is a former officer of the ECAC Sports Information Directors Association. He was the first SID ever elected to the Philadelphia Sportswriters Association Board of Governors. In 1983, he received the Good Guy Award for service to the Sportswriters Association. He has also received the Eddie Gottlieb Memorial Award of the B'nai B'rith Sports Lodge for Outstanding Service to the Sports Community.
