Anita Preston Voorhees organized the women's athletics program when appointed its first director in 1917. She was the first faculty adviser for the Women's Athletic Association in 1925. She graduated from the Normal School in 1913 and completed her Bachelor's degree in 1923. She was Associate Head of the Department of Physical Education from 1913-1927. She originated the Philadelphia Board of Women's Basketball Officials and served as its first president. She was vice-president of the Senior Class in 1913.
