One of the finest soccer players ever to represent Temple University, Ben McLaughlin earned All-American Honors in 1946 when he helped spark the Owls to an unbeaten season. He was selected for the 1948 United States Olympic Team that competed in England, Ireland and Norway. He played with the 1949 US World Cup team, which qualified in Mexico to compete in the 1950 playoffs in Brazil. During his career, he represented the US and/or the American Soccer League against Mexico, Cuba, Haiti, Israel, England, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Canada and Italy. He was also outstanding as a professional soccer player and to climax a brilliant career, he was elected to the Soccer Hall of Fame in 1977.Â
