Bessie W. Taylor coached and captained the field hockey team in 1913 and 1914 as an undergraduate athlete. She lettered in field hockey and basketball in the Normal School and received an All-Philadelphia field hockey letter in 1918. She was a member of Philadelphia Board of Field Hockey Officials for 17 years. She won eight basketball titles, 13 field hockey championships and 12 tennis crowns as coach at Woodbury (NJ) High School. She originated the New Jersey Scholastic Field Hockey League and the West Jersey Field Hockey Association. She founded the West Jersey Boards of Field Hockey and Basketball Officials. She is also a member of the Woodbury High School Coaches Hall of Fame.
