As one of the finest all-around athletes in Temple history, Betty Brown Black was a four-sport standout from 1941-44. She was the captain for field hockey team and All-College I in 1944. She was a member of the varsity basketball, tennis and gymnastics teams. She received Temple's White Blazer Award while a junior. She was the president of the 1944 class, a member of Astron Honor Society and Phi Delta Pi Sorority. After Temple, Betty became the Health and Physical Education Department Head of Charles Ellis School in 1960-77. She was also chosen to be the chairperson for the Philadelphia Board of Women Officials. She also received the 25 Year Service Silver Award for basketball in 1970 and field hockey in 1974.
