Bill Bernardo

One of the finest all-around athletes in Temple history, Bill Bernardo was outstanding in football and baseball. He played four years of varsity football for the Owls and was the team's top ground-gainer in 1949. He earned All-East Honors as a senior. He also played four years of varsity baseball and was team captain in 1950 when he led the Owls in hitting with a .421 average. He also starred at Germantown High in both sports. Bill earned All-Public, All-Scholastic and All-State Honors in football and was a Maxwell Award Winner in 1942. He made the All-Public baseball team and was Germantown's leading hitter. Since his graduation from Temple, Bernardo has produced numerous championship teams while coaching Gratz, Germantown and Northeast High Schools. He is the past president of the Temple Varsity Club.
