One of Temple's finest basketball players in the early thirties,  Charley Freiberg captained the Owls during the 1933-34 season under the late Jimmy Usilton, Sr., also a member of the Temple Hall of Fame. He played three varsity seasons at Temple and was a starter all three years. He was named to the Eastern Intercollegiate Basketball Conference all-star team. He also played in the Eastern Professional League after his graduation from Temple. He was a brilliant all-around athlete at South Philadelphia High School, starring in baseball and basketball. He was a first baseman and the team's top hitter. South Philadelphia won the Public League 1930-31 basketball championship when he earned all-league honors. He has remained active at Temple and is past president of the Varsity Club, Downtown Club, Quarterbacks Club and Varsity Basketball Club. He has also served on the University's Athletic Council.
