- Induction:
- 2012
- Class:
- 1995
The epitome of a student-athlete, Danny Akerman not only excelled as a gymnast during his career at Temple University, but also in the classroom. As a senior in 1995, he was one of eight nominees for the Nissen Award, presented annually to that year's outstanding senior collegiate gymnast. An All-American on the pommel horse for his fifth place to finish at the 1995 NCAA Championships, the native of Ra'ananna, Isreal earned NCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for his 3.99 cumulative grade point average as a risk management/finance major. A three-time NCAA qualifier in the all-around, Akerman helped Temple win Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League (EIGL) Championships in all three of his seasons on the team (1993,1994,1995). The Owl standout also won the pommel horse at the EIGL as a junior and a senior while capturing the all-around title as a senior in 1995.
