Dave Beloff

Founder of boxing as an intercollegiate sport at Temple in 1925, Dave Beloff was a student coach and member of the team. He won all of his bouts for Temple during the 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928 seasons and frequently competed against heavier opponents. He coached the Temple varsity boxing team for 15 years. He was a professional referee for 20 years and officiated numerous championship fights. AÂ product of South Philadelphia High School and a member of that institution's Athletic Hall of Fame, he starred in football, baseball and basketball. He also enjoyed great success as a high school administrator and coach. He coached football, gymnastics and track at Benjamin Franklin High before becoming an administrator at several Philadelphia high schools.
